LIGHT & SHADE

All point sources are problematic. Large, bright surfaces with rather low, but uniform luminance* create a harmonic basic lighting. Smooth transitions between lighter and darker areas as well as soft shadows are pleasing to the eye. Insufficient shadow has an unnatural effect, intensive, sharply defined shadows are a disturbing factor.

The horizontal illuminance at the height of the work surface should be at least 500 lux, in many cases an even higher illuminance can be reasonable. The lighting must always be flicker-free.
